What is Zoom

Zoom is a video conferencing system that allows multiple users in different locations to meet over the internet.

Preparation

  1. Install Zoom on your device:
    • Phone / tablet users: AppStore or Google Play: ZOOM Cloud Meetings
    • Computer users: Zoom Client for Meeting: https://zoom.us/download
  2. Follow the steps at http://zoom.us/test which will launch the app and have you join a test meeting with yourself as the only attendee.  After requesting permission to do so, Zoom will test your video and audio.

Joining a meeting

  1. Click on the link supplied by the host
  2. Open the link with Zoom
  3. To hear others please join audio - click Call using Internet Audio

Screen controls

As per the image (click to view a larger image), you can:

  • Mute / unmmute your microphone - bottom left
  • Turn on/off your camera so that others can/cannot see you - bottom left
  • Turn on/off your camera so that others can/cannot see you - bottom left
  • Chat (text message) all particiapnts or just one and read their messages - bottom centre
  • Flip between seeing the active speaker (speaker view) or all particpants (gallery view) - top right
  • Full screen or exit full screen - top right

Tips:

  • If you're still not confident please call the meeting host for assistance, but please do so at least a day prior to the meeting. Please have your device ready when you do.
  • A significant source of problems during meetings is the quality of internet connections, both yours and those of others in the meeting.  Turning off video and going audio only can help.
