Christ, The Good Shepherd

Christ, The Good Shepherd

The most appealing image of all, and one that stands out is the figure of Christ as the good shepherd. In describing Himself as the Good Shepherd He is painting a beautiful picture of His loving care for the human family while emphasising how precious we are in the eyes of God. Each of us has a special place in His heart as He calls us by name and cares for us individually. He is our guardian and guide, constantly calling us home when we are inclined to stray.

His everlasting love never gives up on us and keeps knocking at the door of our hearts waiting until we open. Above all if we cling to Him we will not be lost because He will never let us down. This is also a reminder that our calling is to be shepherds after the heart of God, making Christ’s presence effectively in our families and communities when we respond to the deepest needs of people under our care. We can be the touch of human love for those who have no friends, the strength for those who are helpless and the healer in times of hurt. The caring acts of God are performed in hands that serve. Christ is dependent on you and me to be shepherds of his flock in a caring and loving act of others. We can be a little bit of Christ in our own homes and do our best to cooperate with His invitation of being a shepherd.

God bless us all!
